Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a contagious bacterial infection and “superbug”. It is important for medical facilities to keep a clean environment as this antibiotic-resistant is a threat to older individuals and those with health conditions. MRSA is already present in 5% of inpatients and 1/3 people carry staph infection bacteria on their skin and nose.
Both of these bacteria are not a problem unless they enter the body and cause infections. Sepsis and pneumonia may occur and can be fatal because the common tools to fight these infections: methicillin, penicillin, vancomycin, and oxacillin do not work any more.
